Movies and games look great on today’s widescreen TVs. But let’s face it, the audio from your typical flat-panel display leaves a lot to be desired. That’s where the HTX-22HDX steps in. In its basic 2.1-channel configuration, the HTX-22HDX gives you a combo subwoofer and A/V receiver plus two front speakers for stunning mid- and high-range audio. Connections Check. Three HDMI 1.4a inputs let you hook up a Blu-ray player, console, and cable/sat tuner. HDMI 1.4a is not only compatible with upcoming 3D video, it also lets you run an Audio Return Channel from your display’s tuner back to the receiver. Audio processing Check. The HTX-22HDX handles HD formats from DTS and Dolby, offers four distinct audio modes for gaming and includes Onkyo’s very own Theater-Dimensional. The latter creates an immersive and convincing surround effect through just 2.1 channels. Meantime, a new on-screen display makes it easier to adjust settings on the fly, so you can get back to the action sooner.

!±8± The Many Benefits of a Wireless PA System

If you are currently mulling over the prospect of procuring a PA system for any reason then one of the big choices that you will have to make is whether not not to go wireless. Why go with a wireless system and what are the benefits? Well, to start with they require no cables which really is a no brainier but the fact is that depending on what you are going to be using it for, this can be a major or a minor consideration.

If you have never set up and taken down a PA system than you have never had to deal with cables and the fact is that they can be a major problem, particularly in a larger venue. In a larger venue cables often have to be taped to the floor and this can be be a problem if the floor is carpeted. Also, cables are notorious for being problematic and are prone to having shorts in them.

Another thing to consider is convenience. This particularly holds true in a smaller venue such as a smaller assembly where you really won't want to spend the time connecting speakers and microphones. In this type of situation, a wireless PA system allows a person to step right up and begin speaking and in fact there are many smaller portable compact wireless PS systems that can be held in one hand.

Portability is another factor to consider. With a wireless PA system because there are no cables to disconnect, so once the gig is over the system can be quickly and easily retrieved and packed up without having to run down and roll up cables. This can be a big deal because you have to remember that not everyone is always ready to leave when you are.
